FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Fort Worth-area pastor who was beaten to death by a guitar-wielding assailant was remembered at his funeral as a man who never allowed an argument to linger.
Friends and family filled the pews at the Great Commission Missionary Baptist Church Saturday to celebrate the life of 53-year-old Danny Kirk.
Kirk, the pastor at the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church in the Fort Worth suburb of Forest Hill, died Monday when an assailant fatally beat him with an electric guitar after ramming a car into a church wall. The assailant, 33-year-old Derrick Birdow, died after police subdued him with a Taser.
Kirk's teenaged son, Danny Kirk Junior, told mourners that his father made sure family members forgave, loved and cherished each other.
On Friday, hundreds waited in line to attend the pastor's wake.
