New Mexico Man Injured in Oilfield Accident 11/04/12

CARLSBAD, N.M.- An oilfield worker is in a Lubbock hospital after an industrial accident on a drilling rig southeast of Carlsbad, New Mexico on Thursday. According to the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Milo Schoonmaker was injured when a 100-pound metal gate dropped on his head and shoulders.
Schoonmaker, was working on Silver Oak Drilling rig No. 7 when a hoist accidentally lifted the metal gate nearly 20 feet into the air and it fell, according to the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
Eddy County Sheriff's Office says they received a call of an industrial accident on US 285 a little after 4pm. Schoonmaker wasn't aware he was badly hurt and kept working for about a half-hour. He was later flown by a MedEvac Chopper to a hospital in Lubbock. His injuries weren't specified.
