Woman Who Stole from Texas Charity Gets Prison 11/2/12

Associated Press
November 12, 2012

GALVESTON - A Southeast Texas woman has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing more than $75,000 from a charity where she handled
the finances.

Lauren Michelle Howell must also repay The Rainbow Connection in Galveston.

She's a former treasurer with the group that uses volunteers to help families of
children with cancer and blood disorders.

Galveston police were notified in August 2011 after the head of the
organization noticed a shortage of funds meant for a children's camp.

Howell pleaded guilty Sept. 7 in the theft case and was sentenced Wednesday.

The Galveston County Daily News reported today that a police affidavit says Howell and her husband were losing their house and had medical bills.
