One Person Killed in Deputy-Involved Shooting UPDATE 11:15 PM 10/31/12

PRESS RELEASE / OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

APPROXIMATELY 7:14 P.M.

Ector County Deputies responded to a "Man With A Gun" call at approximately 7:14 p.m. in the 4000 block of Uranus Avenue.

Dispatchers were advised that "a man was waving a silver gun threatening people".

Sheriff Donaldson along with another Deputy were first to arrive on the scene and contacted a man with a gun in his waistband. He then pulled the weapon out and was fatally wounded by the Deputy.

DPS Troopers were assisting Sheriff's Deputies and the Texas Rangers were called to investigate the shooting. This is common procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting incident.

The Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit was also on the scene.

Investigators were on the scene conducting interviews.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Texas Rangers and any further questions should be directed to them.

UPDATE 9:20 PM

Sgt. Gary Duesler with the Ector County Sheriff's Office says Sheriff Mark Donaldson and at least one other deputy were present on the scene at the time of the shooting.

Sgt. Duesler says the Sheriff did not fire any shots.

One person is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in West Odessa tonight.

The shooting happened around 7:30 pm in the 4000 block of Uranus.

According to the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, deputies say they responded to a call of a man waving a gun.

No word yet on the identity of the shooter.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.
