ODESSA-Those eligible for the Deferred Action status are one step closer thanks to the Texas Civil Rights Project and Casa Marianella.
The two organizations provided a free educational forum for those who would have been beneficiaries under the DREAM Act.
The forum offered free screenings and eligibility status for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program; also known as the DACA.
Amelia Fischer, a fellow at the TCRP, said those who qualify for the program will have protection from deportation for two years.
“Success applicants can obtain work permits, and depending on state law they can receive a driver’s license,” Fischer said.
The forum will be back next month to further assist those applying for DACA.
