It’s that time of year again for those pesky cold and flu symptoms, and a new strand of stomach flu is making its way into the Permian Basin.
Some clinics across the area are starting to see an increase in stomach flu cases.
Dr. Richard Bartlett with the Basin Healthcare Centers said this stomach bug is an epidemic; meaning, it is highly contagious and spreading fast.
“Watch what you’re eating and drinking, who you’re sharing food and drinks with and make sure you’re using frequent hand washing in case you’ve touched something that’s become contaminated,” Dr. Bartlett said.
The stomach bug is said to be like many viruses, which the body can fight off so long as the body is staying hydrated.
Both Midland and Ector County ISD officials said they have not seen an outbreak of stomach flu cases, and attendance has remained stable.
