(Alpine)- A man arrested in Alpine is being charged with stealing more than $4,000 in looted artifacts from Mexico and selling them in states from Montana to California.
Some of the items date back more than 1500 years.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement had 11 separate investigations that led them to Antonio Reyes of Alpine.
Most of the items were uncovered during a string of seizures here in the Permian Basin in 2009, following a tip about relics illegally entering the U.S. at the presidio port of entry.
It is against the law in both in Mexico and the United States to move pre-Columbian artifacts into the United States without proper export documents.
