Local Community Invited to BBB’s 9th Bi-Annual Shred Day Event 10/25/12

PERMIAN BASIN, Texas – Better Business Bureau invites Permian Basin-area consumers and businesses to participate in its bi-annual Shred Day event 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at Complex Community Federal Credit Union located at 4900 E. 52nd Street in Odessa.

Shred Day is an opportunity for local consumers and businesses to prevent identity theft and help the environment through free on-site document shredding, as well as paper, cell phone and computer recycling.

Free shredding and recycling services will be available until 1 p.m. or until the shred trucks reach capacity. Consumers can bring up to two boxes of sensitive documents per vehicle to be shred on-site. Monetary donations benefiting BBB Education Foundation will also be accepted.

In 2011, BBB Shred Day events served more than 7,500 cars and helped consumers and businesses shred 170 tons of personal paper documents, recycle 20,437 pounds of computer parts, 500 pounds of old cell phones and 4,415 pounds of cardboard.

BBB serving Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas and the Permian Basin is part of an expansive network of local BBBs across North America that collaborates to produce bi-annual protect your identity events. The program is a BBB-branded identity theft, fraud prevention and educational initiative.
