Press Release
October 24, 2012

On October 23, 2012, members of the “Registration, Enforcement, Apprehension, and Prosecution” (REAP) team, conducted a compliance inspection of registered sex offenders within the jurisdiction of Odessa and Ector County. During the compliance inspection, registered sex offenders were contacted to insure each offender is properly listing their current address, place of employment, and other compliance restrictions placed on these offenders through the judicial system. At this time, approximately 171 sex offenders are being monitored by the City of Odessa Police Department.

These random inspections are conducted at various times of the year to ensure that offenders who reside within our community are following mandated guidelines assigned through the courts. Throughout the year investigators conduct inspections confirming information updates regarding, moves in residency, employment, etc.

Of the 171 sex offenders being monitored, approximately 125 were contacted to verify their information. 46 sex offenders were not home and could not be contacted at their residence during the operation. Some of the Sex Offenders were at work and others were away from their residence for other reasons.

If you are a registered sex offender residing within the city limits of Odessa and you were not contacted on the afternoon of October 23, 2012, it is strongly recommended you contact the Odessa Police Department as soon as possible.
