MIDLAND- A recent study shows the best and worst states for women to make money.

Nationally, females make 72 percent of what their male counterparts earn.

In Texas women make 71 cents for every dollar a man makes putting Texas close to the national average.

Stacy Nelson, President of Uptown Midland Business and Professional Women, said she was surprised the income gap was that large in Texas.

Nelson, a Chief Financial Officer of Bosworth Company as well said she believes the gaps can only be seen in some professions.

“I have friends who are financial advisors and accountants, and I don’t believe they see the gap that we see in other jobs,” Nelson said. “So I’m very grateful for the career I chose.”

Nelson said she believes many occupations pay based on experience and performance but does admit some gaps exist in the manual labor jobs, which can be found in an oil-based economy.

That is why she and members of BPW focus on combating women’s issues and assisting women for success in the workplace through education.
