SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Don't tell voters in San Antonio that it's hard finding a competitive Election Day race in Texas.
At least than $4.2 million in television ads are bombarding viewers in the nation's seventh-largest city about whether they should keep freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Francisco Canseco, or oust him in favor of Democratic challenger Pete Gallego.
The sprawling 23rd Congressional District will be among the few toss-ups in Texas next month. The nearly 600-mile wide district boundary stretches all the way to El Paso, but the race will be won or lost in San Antonio.
That's the market where the candidates and groups backing them are buying air time in bulk. Canseco narrowly outraised Gallego in campaign finance reports released this week and has more than $1 million in cash on hand.
