T-Storms Return Starting Today 10/11/12

Big changes will occur today and tomorrow across West Texas. A large upper level low pressure system will continue to drift each from southern California toward West Texas. At the same time, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to stream into the region. This will bring dew point temperatures up into the 60’s.
Thunderstorms will ignite across the far western parts of our area today. The best chance of thunderstorms will be in the mountains of West Texas and New Mexico today. Rain chances will move further east into the rest of the area tomorrow. Some storms could be quite strong, with hail, high winds and isolated tornadoes possible. In additions to the severe weather threat, moisture in the atmosphere will be elevated considerably. As a result, heavy rains and localized flooding will be possible.
As the storms system mentioned above opens up and ejects to the NE over the Plains States, expect a pacific cold front to push through the area on Friday night and Saturday morning. Strong thunderstorms will be possible along this front as it merges with the dryline and pushes east. Once it exits the area late Saturday morning, rain chances will come to an end. Much nicer conditions will be in the offing Saturday afternoon and on Sunday. Dry weather will continue into early next week.
