Midland - Today was the Pink the Basin Motorcycle Rally where bikers rode to bring awareness to breast cancer.
Riders from all over west Texas mixed some pink with their leather and boots to ride for a cause
Today, they aren't your typical bikers.
"Decorated their bikes with pink and have pink bandanas and all sorts of pink all over," Kelly White with Pink the Basin said.
They are riders who've been affected in some way by cancer.
"I have several family friends and with their family members who they've lost loved ones to cancer," biker, Leslie Richardson said.
"In my family, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer, my really good friend diagnosed and my step-son's mother passed away with cancer at age of 34. We've been touched significantly," White said.
These bikers set out on two routes around west Texas to raise awareness for breast cancer and show their love for those battling the disease.
"People in the store were asking us what we were doing," Richardson said.
"Just die hard riders for the support of breast cancer patients, they were so enthusiastic," White said.
They ride for one thing, a cure.
Pink the Basin will continue to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Tomorrow, Midland Pink the Park is going to be at Windland Park off Wadley and Dengar from 3pm to 5.
Pink flags will placed all around the park for the entire month of October.
Made possible by the generous support of Midland Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Health System, and Betsy Triplett-Hurt, Pink the Basin, Inc. will once again throw the biggest, pinkest lunch party in the Permian Basin on Tuesday October 23, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be at the Horseshoe this year with an exciting new theme: Live, Love, Laugh.
This year’s event will once again include shopping, a silent auction, a survivor style show and special recognition of our local breast cancer survivors.
To top it off, this year’s keynote speaker will be award winning and renowned comedian Jeanne Robertson.
And all new this year, a Clayshoot will be held on October 27th at Jakes Clays, finishing off the October events.
The mayors of both Midland and Odessa have also signed a proclamation declaring October 23, 2012 as Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
