Midland, TX - Tonight Midland High Bulldog fans added some pink to their purple and gold attire.

At Grande Stadium tonight cancer awareness was under the Friday Night Lights.

The Midland Alumnae chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha says tonight's "Pink Out" game is all about raising awareness and educating women about the importance of early detection.

"If you let the cancer go for a while before you're detected it can be a lot more difficult," explains Melissa Hendrix-Beach

Hendrix-Beach says it's a struggle she knows all too well after she watched her own family member battle the disease.

"It’s hard for me to talk about but we just never thought it would happen to us. Right after they asked me to chair this program my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she says. "It was a long and difficult road to recovery, she was diagnosed last November and she has just finished chemo therapy and radiation and she is now cancer free."

She's not alone. In fact, 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

"Its a friend, its a mother, its a sister somebody that you know somewhere has breast cancer," Hendrix-Beach explains.

She hopes, at least for tonight, it's a cause that won't sit on the sidelines.
