A Dozen Horses Saved, Law Enforcment Looking for Property Owners 10/4/12

Odessa, TX - After a rainy weekend, Odessa Animal Control was called out to a home on Apple Street.
They found a dozen horses tired, cold and wet. The horses were also without food for a long amount of time.
"The owners got to the point where they're taking on more than they can handle," said Sherrie Carruth with the Odessa Police Department.
She says the horses were at the brink of exhaustion when Animal Control removed them from the property. One didn't make it and died in the process of saving it.
"It was just that far gone," she said, "The other eleven were taken to Animals Control, which is where they are at right now."
Police say the property owners are nowhere to be found and they have not been contacted.
They say that the property owners don't necessarily have to be the owners of the animals. Police put a seizure warrant on their fence demanding them to show up in court.
"A hearing will determine what will happened with the animals," Carruth said.
According to the Ector County Appraisal District, the home in Pleasant Farms belongs to a Michael Hahn. About a year ago CBS 7 did a story on a "Mike Hahn" who lives the same area and adopted wild mustangs from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. CBS 7 is still working to confirm this with officials.
Carruth says five dogs were also saved.
"It's not their fault, they are not the reason why they were treated the way they were." she said.
The Ector County Sheriff's Office is also investigating. The hearing is set for October 9.
