ECISD Closes Barbara Jordan Elementary to New Students 10/1/12

ECISD officials on Monday announced that Barbara Jordan Elementary – with 945 students – is now closed to further enrollment. While School District officials always prefer to have students attend their neighborhood schools, there is no other option at Jordan at this point because the school’s auxiliary spaces like the cafeteria, gymnasium, etc. are well beyond capacity and that is having a negative impact on the campus’s daily operations. Earlier in the school year, District officials closed both Cavazos Elementary and Murry Fly Elementary because of high enrollment.
Students who move into the Jordan attendance zone from this point forward will be assigned to Ireland Elementary which is the nearest school and it also has openings for new students. ECISD will provide transportation for those students affected by this decision.
As always, parents can also choose to apple to any of the District’s nine magnet elementary programs if they are interested in other options.
