A Record Amount of Rain Fell Friday 09/29/12

CBS 7 News
September 29, 2012

Friday was a very rainy day across West Texas, with the National Weather Service at Midland International Airport recording a record amount of rainfall. Friday, 4.66 inches of rain were recorded at MAF, the most rainfall ever recorded for the date (September28). The amount that fell was also a new record for one-day rainfall ever in September, the prior record being 3.60 inches that fell on September 5, 1944. Friday's rainfall was also the third highest amount of rain recorded on any day of the year. The only two days ever to receive more rain were August 24, 1934, with 5.32 inches, and May 9, 1958, with 4.75 inches of rain. As you can see, these records extend back into the 1930's. The likelihood of more rain is dimished considerably, however, with only a 20 percent chance of more showers on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.
