Egypt's President Says He Won't Rest Until Syrian War Ends 9/27/12

Associated Press
September 27, 2012

United Nations - Egypt's new president says he won't rest until the civil war in Syria is brought to an end.

In his debut speech to the U.N. General Assembly, Mohammed Morsi called the fighting in Syria the "tragedy of the age" and one that "we all must end."

He also said certifying the rights of the Palestinian people should be a priority for the world body.

Morsi, a member of the once-banned Islamist party Muslim Brotherhood, condemned the violence that swept Muslim countries last week in reaction to a video denigrating the Prophet Muhammad. But he also condemned the American-made video as an obscenity, and said freedom of expression shouldn't allow for attacks on any religion.

Earlier, Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the General Assembly. He spoke about his vision for a new world order and about Israeli threats to attack Iran but didn't mention Iran's nuclear program.

The U.S. delegation boycotted Ahmadinejad's speech.
