Coach: S Texas School to Appeal Season Forfeiture 9/26/12
McALLEN, Texas (AP)
A South Texas high school coach whose team is faced with forfeiting the entire season over alleged practice time violations says an appeal to the state's governing body for public school athletics is planned.
The Monitor in McAllen reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/Q6Q9kU) that Edcouch-Elsa coach Joe Solis said the school would fight a ruling that his team violated a state-mandated eight-hour weekly limit on practice time.
District 32-4A executive committee Chairman Michael Uribe says the team can keep playing until the University Interscholastic League's state executive committee rules on the expected appeal.
Uribe says the father of a player alleged the team practiced 16 hours the first week of the season.
Edcouch-Elsa is 2-1 entering Friday night's game against Roma. The team will keep the wins if the appeal succeeds.
