Discussion continues in both Midland and Odessa about proposed bond issues on the ballot this November.
Una Vos Unida hosted a forum tonight in Odessa at Ector Junior High School. Committee members with Odessans for Kids offered information about the ECISD plan and took questions from those in attendance.
Brooks Landgraff, a committee member with Odessans for Kids said, “We are very encouraged to come to Ector Junior High and see overwhelming community support. We had a lot of great questions from community members who were interested in the process and the policy.”
Landgraf says when you are asking tax payers to make this kind of investment, he expects and appreciates good questions because that creates educated voters.
Meanwhile a small crowd also gathered at Blackshear Elementary for a public forum hosted by Odessans for Kids. The group included parents, educators and business leaders who were interested in hearing about the plan and sharing their thoughts.
Carol Horton, a former educator in ECISD says, “This is something we've needed for a long time. As an administrator at a junior high 20 years ago, we needed a middle school concept then.”
Some of the questions included why the west and north sides of Odessa were chosen for the new elementary campuses. Attendees also wanted additional information about how the bond issue would impact taxpayers.
