Breezy Winds And Returning Moisture Today 09/25/12

Tuesday Morning Weather Update
Greg Morgan – Chief Meteorologist

Expect another warm and breezy day across West Texas. Temperatures will top out in the lower to mid 90’s for most. A few locations in the SE parts of the Permian Basin and the mountains will see highs in the mid to upper 80’s. Winds will be fairly strong today, out of the south at 10-20 with gusts to around 25mph. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon in the mountains of West Texas.

On Wednesday, thunderstorm chances will spread a little further to the east. Some storms that develop across SE New Mexico, the Trans Pecos and Stockton Plateau will be quite strong, if not severe. High temperatures will drop into the 80’s for most as clouds increase across the region.

Big changes and a very challenging forecast will evolve on Thursday and Friday… Moisture will increase in the low levels of the atmosphere over the next few days, as south winds continue to transport moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. At the same time, moisture from Hurricane Miriam, now located in the Pacific will be pulled into the mid and upper level flow. The net result will be widespread rainfall, some of it heavy across all of West Texas late in the week. The pattern looks to remain unsettled through the weekend.
