The group Odessans for Kids held another public forum Monday night to share information about the proposed bond issue in ECISD. Those in attendance had many questions.
Some asked about the overall financial impact on taxpayers for the $129 million dollar proposal. Others wanted to understand why overcrowding would still be an issue after sixth graders were moved up to middle school.
After hearing the presentation, Ector County resident Gino Solla said he’s a supporter. “If we don't do it today, future generations won't reap the benefits. I think we need to make the investment and I think it'll be worthwhile into the future.”
But Conrad Turner expressed concerns. “I'm in total favor of building on at Odessa High School and Permian High School. What I object to is building three new elementary schools when the administration is going to take out a complete class.”
Committee members say student population continues to grow and that the new elementary schools are also about having neighborhood schools located where families are moving - specifically west and north-east Odessa.
If you missed tonight's meeting, you can still attend another meeting scheduled for Tuesday at Blackshear elementary at 6 o'clock. Or at Ector Junior High School at 6:30 p.m.
