Big Spring – Howard County Commissioners will adopt a tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year in their meeting this morning.
Commissioners are considering adopting a tax rate of 33 cents per $100 valuation.
The effective rate, which would bring in the same amount of revenue as last year, is approxiamately 30 cents per $100 valuation.
The proposed tax rate will generate $753,000 more tax dollars for the county than last year’s levy, which was 43.6720 cents per $100 valuation.
County Judge Mark Barr says the additional funding is needed to go towards repairing county roads.
He says fixing all county roads would be a $22 million project. Judge Barr says they hope to apply $400,000 to $500,000 a year to fixing county roads.
