Big Spring - The oil boom has brought more people to the area, and Big Spring Police say these people may be just too busy to get into trouble.

"With jobs the way they are, people are working and are too busy for anything else," Sgt. Tony Everett with Big Spring PD said.

They say that recent vandalism's in the area is nothing out of the ordinary.

"We do from time to time, but lately we haven't," Sgt. Everett said. "We're not seeing any of that...most of our criminal mischief cases are isolated incidents."

Jerry Groves with the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial Association knows all too well the frustration of vandalism.

"It's very frustrating to be on the receiving end of something like that...it's hurtful," he said.

The Vietnam Memorial was vandalized just weeks ago and he says someone's mindless crime is now their mess to clean.

"Clean it up and put it all back together and we'll go on down the road like we have before," Groves said.

He says it's because of the public that the vandals were brought to justice and the public is a very valuable source to the Big Spring PD.

"Public is best source of info and always will be," Sgt. Everett said.

If you have any information on any case, you're encouraged to call the Big Spring Police Department at: 264-2550, or Crime Stoppers at: 264-TIPS.
