New El Paso Border Bridge Progress Only On US Side 9/17/12
September 17, 2012
El Paso, Tx. - Construction is rapidly advancing on the American side of a new international border bridge near El Paso but not a shovel of dirt has been turned on the Mexican side.
El Paso County officials tell the El Paso Times in a story published Sunday they're not concerned even though they could own a $133 million bridge to nowhere.
No one involved in the project on the Mexican side would comment to the newspaper.
County Commissioner Ann Perez says U.S. and Mexican officials have exchanged "diplomatic notes" about the bridge and Mexico has committed itself to building it. But she says commissioners haven't been apprised of Mexico's timeline.
County commissioners are to get a briefing about the Texas side of the project on Monday.
