Strong Storms Rumble Across the Basin 9/12/12
Strong thunderstorms are rumbling across the Permian Basin and southeast New Mexico. These storms have heavy rain, brief wind gusts and cloud to ground lightning. There is not any severe weather, and we are not expecting any, but the storms that are occurring can be dangerous in their own right. Remember, lightning is always a danger, and brief, local heavy rain could cause brief flash flooding in low lying areas. The cold front is currently just north of Lubbock, moving in our direction, and should pass through Midland/Odessa around 4-5 am Thursday morning. This front will bring with it cooler temperatures and brief gusty winds from the northeast. In the wake of the front rain will be likely during the day Thursday, with possible amounts up to one inch or slightly more.
