9/11 Memorial Ceremony in Alpine 9/11/12

ALPINE - Moderate temperatures and a sunny sky greeted those attending the short ceremony commemorating 9-11 at the Alpine Border Patrol station.
The event featured the Big Bend Sector’s Honor Guard, led by Michael French.
Chief John J. Smietana led the ceremony which opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, a moment of silence for those lost on September 11, 2001, a short speech by Smietana, the laying of the wreath by Martin Valenzuela on the monument - a twisted beam from the World Trade Center, the playing of Taps, and a closing prayer by Chaplain Jason Thomas.
