(Odessa)- On September 10, 2012, the Grand Jury reviewed the events that occurred in two separate traffic accidents.
The first was an accident which occurred on May 29, 2012 on Highway 385 in which three children were killed.
After a thorough DPS investigation and fully considering the evidence in this case, the Grand Jury “No Billed” the drivers of each vehicle, Nicole Sheesley and Linda Araiza.
Although there was evidence that both parties could have been at fault, none of their actions rose to the level of felony criminal activity.
The second accident reviewed by the Grand Jury involved an accident that occurred on East 52nd on May 31, 2012 in which the driver, Sandra Bell, crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic resulting in the death of a passenger in her vehicle as well as a passenger in the vehicle she struck.
Based upon the evidence available and after a thorough investigation by the Odessa Police Department, Sandra Bell was “No Billed” by the Grand Jury.
Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland, said “When tragedies like this occur it is understandable to want to hold someone accountable, however, not all traffic deaths are the result of felonious criminal activity, and therefore cannot be prosecuted by the State of Texas. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.”
