Guerra Elected To Texas District 41 9/7/12

Associated Press
September 7, 2012

Austin, Tx. - Texas' secretary of state says Democrat Bobby Guerra has been elected state representative for District 41, filling the spot vacated by the resignation in June of Veronica Gonzales.

The secretary of state declared Guerra the winner last week to fill the unexpired term because he was the only candidate that filed in the special election.

The special election was only to fill the rest of Gonzales' term. Guerra faces a Republican opponent Miriam Martinez in the Nov. 6 election to determine who will hold the spot for the next two years.

Gonzales, a Democrat from McAllen who is an attorney, had accepted a job with University of Texas-Pan American as vice president for university advancement.
