Odessa – The Ector County Elections Office has sent out nearly 250 letters throughout the county to verify if a registered voter is dead or alive.
Office officials say the letters are mandated from the Secretary of State.
They say Social Security goes through their records using partial social security numbers, birth dates and names to verify a person’s identity. From these collected records, they compile a list and send them out to counties.
Ector County received a list of nearly 250. They say they’ve been getting numerous phone calls from people who have received the letter that are still active voters.
If any person has received a letter, it will not affect voting status in November.
