Hot Temperatures and Isolated Storms Today 9/5/12
Wednesday Morning Weather Update
Greg Morgan – Chief Meteorologist
Hot temperatures are expected across all of West Texas today through Friday. Showers and storms will be possible, mainly in the mountains and in the northern parts of our area, where instability a few surface triggers will be present. Other locations might see a few brief storms as temperatures soar each afternoon, meeting the convective temperature (The temperature a parcel of air must achieve in order to rise on it’s own.) Expect a southerly wind around 10-15mph. Some storms that develop north of our area might send a few outflow boundaries southward into the Basin. These boundaries might briefly bring a drop in temperatures, and increase in wind speeds and a chance of rain.
Another cold front will move southward into the area on Friday night. This front will bring a big drop in temperatures. Expect highs only in the 80’s on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will drop into the 50’s for many. A chance of rain appears possible if not likely for much of the region on Friday night and Saturday.
Dry and warmer conditions are expected to return next week.
