Press Release
September 4, 2012
MIDLAND, TX – 08/30/2012 – Midland Police will offer the Citizens on Patrol (COPs) class September 18, and 20. The classes will be held at the Midland Police Department from 7pm till 10pm, both nights. A background check is done on all applicants.
The COPs program is civilian volunteers that patrol the streets in their own vehicles and act as the eyes and ears of the police department. Residents won’t become involved in enforcement action, but some responsibilities can include: recognition and reporting of initial crime, or traffic direction at large events.
After completion of the class, the prospective COPs person must complete 8 hours ride-along with a uniformed officer. Finally, qualified COPs are teamed up together and allowed to patrol.
