Big Lake Shooter Taken to San Angelo Hospital UPDATE 2:10pm 8/2/12

UPDATE: 2:10PM
The accused killer of a Reagan County Sheriff Deputy surrendered to a swat team just after 11am today.
Tear gas and stun grenades were tossed into the home, where 43-year-old Mark Madison had barricaded himself in an all-night standoff with lawmen.
Reagan County Sheriffs Deputy Josh Mitchell was shot last night after trying to stop Madison for questioning.
Mitchell later died at the Reagan County Hospital.
Ironically, Madison was taken to the same hospital for treatment and then flown by helicopter to a San Angelo hospital.
Reagan County Sheriff Jeff Garner said Madison had a troubled past with Reagan County lawmen.
A neighbor also said Madison had a trouble with substance abuse.
Madison is in undetermined condition at Shannon Memorial Hospital.
Charges are pending.

Marcus "Mark" Madison was transported by AirMed-1 helicopter to Shannon Hospital is San Angelo after being taken into custody by Texas Rangers and SWAT officers.
The Big Lake Wildcat has learned that Madison shot himself in the head with a "high-powered rifle or shotgun." His injuries are said to be extensive.
Madison is suspected in Wednesday's shooting death of RCSO deputy Josh Mitchell.
He was transported by ambulance to the Reagan County Airport where he was loaded onto the helicopter. Texas Ranger Nick Hanna accompanied Madison on the flight.

From Brownwood Bulletin:
The standoff ended shortly after the SWAT officers entered the home at 11:15 a.m. According to the Big Lake Wildcat, officers found the suspect, Marcus Wade Madison, hiding in a closet.
Madison, 42, was transported to the Reagan Memorial Hospital with injuries. At this time, its not known if the injuries are from the SWAT officers entering the home or self-inflicted.

Reagan County Sheriff Jeff Garner tells CBS 7 News that the man arrested for killing Josh Mitchell has been identified as 43 year old Mark Madison. The Sheriff tells us that Madison has a history of issues with the Sheriff's Office.
We are told that the Deputy Mitchell went to Madison's house to tell him to "stay away" from another house in the area.
Officials say that is when Madison shot Mitchell without reason.

Mike Barker reports from Big Lake that the suspect has been transported via medical helicopter out of Big Lake. Originally CBS 7 was told that the man was not injured. However, we are now hearing that the man was standing but was “bloody.” We are not sure which hospital the man is being taken to.

CBS 7's Mike Barker on the scene tells us the suspect was taken into custody unharmed.
The standoff is now over at the home in the 1100 block of Main street in Big Lake.

BIG LAKE, Texas (AP) — A sheriff says a West Texas deputy has been shot and killed and a standoff continues with a suspect. According to Brown County authorities, the suspect is from Lake Brownwood and had been in the Brown County Jail recently.
Other details from Brown County authorities were not immediately available.
Reagan County Sheriff Jeff Garner said Thursday that a male suspect was barricaded in a house in Big Lake. Garner says the standoff began around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday and continued through the night.
Garner identified the slain officer as 26-year-old Deputy Josh Mitchell. Garner declined to provide further details on the suspect or what led to Mitchell's fatal shooting Wednesday night.
The sheriff says Mitchell had been with the department for at least eight years.
Further details on the investigation were not immediately available.
Big Lake is a town of about 2,900, located 70 miles southeast of Midland
