One Person Dead Following Tanker Rollover 7/29/12

It’s been a busy day for Midland emergency crews.

Crews were called out to Tom Craddick Hwy and Holiday Hill Rd. just before 5 this afternoon to a rollover involving an 18-wheeler carrying diesel fuel.

Upon arrival, they found the tanker fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews were able to douse the blaze in a fairly short time.

Midland Fire officials tell CBS 7 that a tan SUV collided with the 18-wheeler and ended up under the tanker.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was found walking on the highway near the accident. He has been taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment.

An occupant of the SUV is confirmed dead.

No names of those in the wreck have been released at this time.

A hazmat team was called to the scene to clean up any spills from the tanker. We are told the tanker can hold up to 80-barrels of diesel.

The clean up continues tonight.

CBS 7 has just confirmed that one person is dead following the accident involving an 18-wheeler in Midland.
Emergency crews on scene tell CBS 7 that an 18-wheeler carrying diesel collided with a tan SUV.
The SUV was found beneath the diesel tanker.
The tanker was capable of holdng over 80-barrels of diesel fuel.
Hazmat teams are cleaning up the fuel on the scene.
No names have been released at this time.
DPS is now investigating.

6:00PM
Emergency crews are still on the scene working to clean up a rollover involving an 18-wheeler.

Our crew on scene say Midland Fire, Midland Police and DPS are all on scene.

At this time we know the burning 18-wheeler is now extinguished and hazmat crews are on scene cleaning up any spills or leaks.

All lanes on Tom Craddick Hwy and Holiday Hill Rd are still closed off at this time.

5:30PM
Flames have been put out on the burning tanker, according to Midland Fire.

Hazmat crews are on scene to clean up any spilled fuel and to plug any possible leaks on the rolled truck.

UPDATE 5:15PM
MPD say fire crews are working to put out the burning 18-wheeler.

Scanner traffic reports the truck was carrying diesel fuel.

Midland Police have confirmed that one person has been transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Midland - A rollover involving an 18-wheeler has resulted in closure of Tom Craddick Hwy and North bound lanes of Holiday Hill Road.

Scanner traffic reports an 18-wheeler rolled over and is completely engulfed in flames.

Emergency crews are enroute at this time.

No word if there are any injuries at this time.
