Pecos, TX – The Reeves County Sheriff’s Office says they identified the two people stealing bales of hay.
They are looking for 40-year-old Carmen Evaro Morales and 44-year-old Johnny Albert Rodriguez. Both are Monahans residents and deputies say they are on the run.
Last year's drought caused prices of hay to skyrocket because of its lack of availability.
Investigators say they stole up to 700 bales of hay in Reeves County.
The rancher caught them committing the crime on camera investigators say this is one example of a new growing problem of hay theft.
Ranchers say over the span of 2 years of drought, the price of hay doubled to about $12-dollars a bale.
If arrested this couple could be charged with at least a state jail felony, there’s even a reward for the person who brings them to justice.
Investigators say similar instances are happening in surrounding counties, but cannot say if they are connected.
If you have information regarding the whereabouts of these two people you call the Sheriff’s office at 432-445-4901.
