Odessa Man Injured In Truck-Train Crash 7/15/12

(Odessa)- The Ector County Sheriffs Office responded to a car/train collision at approximately 10:04 p.m. Saturday night.
The wreck occurred in the area of East Highway 80 across from the area of
the Great Value Inn.
It is believed the vehicle had entered from the area of Truck and Cargo
Street and went around the barriers and onto a secondary set of train
tracks that are South that run parallel to the main tracks on East Highway
80.
Subject was driving his vehicle East bound and his vehicles wheels got
stuck on the track and was struck by a train also traveling East bound
and knocked his vehicle (2003 Chevy Silverado) into another train that was
parked on the side of the track.
The subject was ejected from the vehicle approximately 20 feet from
impact. He was the only occupant in the car.
Subject is a Hispanic male, approximately 29 years old.
Subject was transported to Medical Center Hospital but he was conscious
and talking with paramedics during transport.
His condition is unknown at time of this release.
Subject's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The train did sustain some damage to the front end.
Investigation continues.
