Midland, TX - Some Midlanders may soon see an increase in their property taxes. Midland City Council began looking at next year's proposed budget this morning, which includes a 3 percent increase above the effective tax rate.
"Anyone who's brand new , or if your particular property went up in valuation, then you'll be feeling it but if your property value stayed the same or dropped, then you might pay the same or less than you paid last year in taxes," said Mayor Wes Perry, City of Midland.
City officials say the increase is to cover the cost of hiring 6 new firefighters and pay-off debt. The proposed budget is the recommendation of the City Manager. Council will have to make final approval of the budget in August.
