Midland, TX - Many churches in the basin are seeing a milestone, they didn't expect coming. They say the oil boom is giving them a faith boom.
"It's exciting, it's exciting to learn more about the church and to find a new church that we love.... We've been looking for a long time for a good church and we've found an home here," said new church member Tina Williams.
Tina Williams is just one of the newest members calling Mid-Cities church their new home.
Like many churches in the Permian Basin, Mid-Cities is seeing an increase in their congregation. The congregation has reached around 12% more since last year.
"Lots of young families moving into the Permian Basin because of jobs or because of the economy. And so because of that their looking for a church home," said Mid-Cities family pastor Andrew Strand.
The church has about 2,000 members and has started to expand. They are currently building a new 54,000 square foot building to meet the needs of the growing community.
They say this expansion will give new members like Williams a new place to connect and call home on Sunday morning.
"I like that Mid-Cities is really accepting. That it feels like a home, rather than somewhere where I feel judged," said new member Tina Williams.
