Midland, TX - Military families gathered today to remember their loved ones lost at war.
“She didn't know him and that's hard that at 2 years old she doesn't realize that she's supposed to have a daddy…because she was 3 months when he died,” said wife of fallen service men Carolyn West.
West and her daughter are just 1 of 50 gold star families coming together to honor their loved ones who died serving our country.
" He's here but he's not here. And everything that I do for a veteran or a soldier anything that I help volunteer for I do it I'm his name. I do it because of him. Because I never ever want him to be forgotten,” said mother of fallen soldier Lita Hanson.
They say a simple day at the ballpark is allowing them to connect with others in the midst of their grief.
"And I can't explain it, only a mother and father know ... He is still with us at heart and do he's with is and always will be," said Hanson.
Sharing their stories and cherishing a day at the park is just another step in their healing process.
