Midland, TX – An exciting downtown celebration is making it's comeback to the Tall City. Preparations are already underway for Midland's "Star-Spangled Salute." But bringing the event back was no easy task it has taken the community to make it happen.
Organizers say it's been at least 5 years since Midland had a 4th of July celebration downtown and they say this is the perfect year to bring it back.
"Just a way for us to get together and have a good ole' family time," said Tracy Bacon, Event Chair.
Wednesday night, Midlanders will be celebrating Independence Day in the middle of downtown.
"It builds community and so many of us are going in all directions right now, this is a chance to slow down, spend time with each other and just celebrate this nation," said Brad Barnett, Vice President, The Midland Center.
But putting on the massive event was no easy task.
"We couldn't have done it without people having a vision and support behind the event," said Bacon.
Despite lacking volunteer power at first, Midlanders quickly jumped on board to offer a helping hand with the celebration that is expected to entertain over 15,000 people.
"It's no one person that puts on an event like this, it takes lots of people and dedication and we really appreciate it, I think everybody's gonna walk away with a sense of pride in our community," said Bacon.
The Star-Spangled Salute begins tomorrow at 6 pm at Centennial Plaza. The event is free to the public.
