Black Cultural Council Of Odessa Celebrates Juneteenth 6/16/12

Odessa, TX- Today the Black Cultural Council of Odessa celebrates Juneteenth, a holiday which commemorates the Texas announcement of freedom African Americans received from the emancipation proclamation.
The organization held barbeques, parades and line dancing performances. The group will have a parade starting north on Dixie St. to Murphy St. in Odessa at 8 pm. They also will have a performance by blues artist Willie Clayton tonight at 10pm.
BCCO wants to spread the awareness of the holiday and invite everyone out to celebrate.
Tonight festivities end at 11:30pm. The group plans to continue the celebration tomorrow.
