Forty UTPB Student-Athletes Named To Academic All-Conference List

The student-athletes at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin have achieved many honors on the court, field or swimming pool as well as in the classroom as 40 were named to the Heartland Conference Academic All-Conference list.

The Falcon baseball team had the highest number of members named to the academic team with 10 while women’s soccer had seven. The men’s cross country team had five members on the squad while volleyball and women’s basketball had four. Men’s soccer and softball each had three, while men’s basketball and women’s cross country had two.

UTPB also had 13 student-athletes make the President’s list which goes to those maintaining a grade-point average of 3.50 or better. Twenty seven others established a GPA of 3.0 – 3.49 and were named to the Commissioner’s list.

“The fact that 22 percent of our student-athletes were named to the academic all-conference team indicates the quality of student-athletes representing UTPB. We have seen consistent improvements in the academic performance of our athletes over the past several years,” Athletic Director Steve Aicinena said.

“The graduation rates of our student-athletes as well as the overall GPA of our student-athletes are superior to those of the general student body. I look forward with anticipation seeing even better academic performance on the part of our student-athletes in future years.”
