Today the Big Spring VA Medical Hospital broke ground for its new 40 bed drug abuse Domiciliary facility.

The facility will provide residential rehabilitation and treatment for Veterans with addiction disorders.

While in the 90-day program, veterans will be able to improve their work skills and gain experience and confidence from the program to successfully re-enter the workforce.

The program is available at several VA hospitals across the country and the idea of bring one to Big Spring has been in the works for sometime.

Congressman Randy Neugebauer was on hand 15 months ago help open a temporary facility.

Hospital Director Daniel Marsh says this building will help the Federal's Government's goal of taking care of all its veterans.

"It will certainly help us achieve part of the Secretary's goal which is ending homelessness within Veterans within 5 years. We are certainly committed to that goal and this project will help us help achieve that within the VA Health Care System."

Construction on the building will start next week and Marsh says he hopes it will be finished in about 13 months.
