(Odessa)- The United Way of Odessa held the campaign finale Thursday at the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.
Representatives from United Way joined with various community volunteers and others for the announcement of this years campaign numbers.
The economy presented some challenges, and the need has also increased.
Despite that, the campaign raised $1,850,000 dollars to help out agencies in the City of Odessa.
According to Dwayne Bennett Executive Director for United Way, "We had some challenges and things were down because of the economy. We had some that just said "No" we can't this year, but this community really came forward, and those who gave, dug in deep and added more to what they normally give, which is the reason that it happened this year."
The United Way serves 17 agencies throughout the city.
Your donations will help continue to fund the programs provided by groups like The Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, Red Cross and others.
