Midland, Texas - It's been a tough year for many Americans.

According to a USDA report, 17 million households can't afford to put food on their table, putting more burden on food banks and soup kitchens.

The Midland Soup Kitchen on Orchard Lane always has a steady crowd for lunch.

But Jason Ivy who runs the kitchen with the help of his wife and volunteers says the number of people visiting has gone up.

“We are seeing men laid off from oil field. Also we are seeing alot of new faces...about 110 a day.”

Ivy also says along with the warm meal he tries to offer some spiritual guidance.

With the holiday's approaching, the kitchen expects to feed more than 200 people a day.

If you would like to help the Midland Soup Kitchen with a donation, you can call them at 686-7687.
