Friday we told you Alon USA dropped its lawsuit against the Howard County Appraisal District and tonight we know why.
Alon's Senior VP of refining Joe Concienne issued a statement saying
“Yes, Alon has dropped the lawsuit concerning the 2009 appraisal of the Refinery. We believed and still do believe the suit is valid. However, after three years of disputed tax appraisals and lawsuits, Alon ultimately decided that a time of healing, so to speak, is warranted. Alon understands its position in the community as the largest taxpayer in Howard County and we hope our action today is the first step toward a process for reaching valuations for the refinery that are fair and reasonable for both Alon and Howard County without having to go to court. We are hopeful we can work proactively with the Appraisal District to avoid disagreements in the future.”
The Big Spring Refinery was appraised at $169 million for the last tax year.
