Kermit, Texas - West Texas is still feeling the effects of the economic slow down but signs of recovery may be showing up in the city of Kermit.
"When the oil bust happened, a lot of people left this area," said Kermit Chamber of Commerce President, Stephanie Haley.
With a population of about 5,000 people, Kermit is fighting to keep business going.
The Chamber of Commerce reports there have been few layoffs within a city heavily dependent on oil.
"The companies are working very hard to keep their employees," Haley continued.
A glimmer of hope may be in the form of three brand new businesses making their way into town.
The city's highly traveled main artery will soon boast a: Kent Kwik, Huddle House Restaurant and Panda Buffet.
"People come through here on their way to work all the time and on the way home from work and that's why these two restaurants," Haley continued.
The Chamber says no incentives or breaks have been offered to these businesses.
"They're coming in on their own."
The next big challenge will be getting more people to move to Kermit. Many are hopeful this newest boost may be an indication of a coming boom.
"I'm just proud of the town for keeping ourselves going the way we are through this little slump," said Haley.
