"White Powder Scare" at Univision TV Station a False Alarm 11/11/09

Midland, Texas -

An unidentified white powder found at a local TV station is considered a false alarm tonight after causing a scare this morning.

If someone drove by the Univision station headquarters this morning you’d think a major chemical threat was present.

That’s what station employees feared when they called police, only to find out that it was an illegal substance of a different kind.

The Midland/Odessa Univision station became the news this morning when a Hazmat Crew arrived to investigate a white powder found on keyboards inside the building.

"An unusual white powder substance on some keyboards in an area of the building", said Midland Fire Department District Chief, Patrick Repman.

Employees and prospective employees alike weren't sure what was happening.

"Just came here to have a meeting with Univision but apparently there's a situation”, said Efren Hernandez.

He flew in from San Francisco for a job interview, only to be interrupted by the substance some feared was a bio-chemical threat.

"I drove in and the road is blocked off and I had no idea so I asked around what was going on", said Hernandez.

Police quickly answered that question, as the white substance tested positive on site as cocaine.

"Employees of this organization have come in contact with it at some point or another", said Repman.

The question now becomes who was in contact with it and why.

No arrests have been made but the situation is under investigation.
