For months the Howard County Health Center was going thru the nightmarish dream of trying to find a site. But thanks to the partnership with Hosipitality House, that nightmarish dream has become a wonderful reality.
"It's been a long journey. The thing that drives us is the need in the community."
Health Center Project Director Ann Farley was relieved to finally find a site for the clinic but it took some extra help to stabilize the project.
"We have partnered with Hospitality House here in Big Spring at the old Mountain View Lodge Nursing Home and we hope to open in spring, 2010," Farley said.
Hospitality House Director Calvin Westerhof said his organization, which provides housing and ministry services for families visiting loved ones in prison, had just acquired the property and heard about the health center's call for help.
"We have found the need of the Howard County medical facility and we began negotiating with them with the understanding that we could partner together to provide a service for this area," Westerhof said.
It will take a few months to renovate the building but by spring the two entities will share one facility.
"The medical facility will have two wings," Westerhof says.
"They're starting off with one wing and we are going to pick up the rest of the wings ourselves for expansion [of Hospitality House]."
Both organizations work for the community and Farley and Westerhof are happy to work together to benefit everyone.
"The opportunity with Hospitality House is very much appreciated," Farley said.
"We are completely blessed to be given this building and we want to continue that blessing on down," Westerhof concluded.
