ECISD News Release
November 4, 2009

Odessa, Texas - Noel Elementary sheltered in place for just more than one hour on Wednesday as local law enforcement officers searched the neighborhood near the school for robbery suspects. The campus was quickly secured by ECISD police officers who were already there teaching the GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program. The students and staff were safe throughout the episode which ended at 1:00 p.m.

“Shelter in Place” means the school’s exterior doors are locked and monitored and no one is allowed in or out of the building. Inside, school goes on as usual. ECISD schools do practice drills throughout the year so that they will know how to respond to these situations quickly and effectively.
